Confidentiality Notice

PRIVACY IN CLINICAL CARE

This notice explains the main confidentiality principles that apply to SaskOCD clinical services. Specific legal and professional duties can vary by profession and circumstance.

A useful principle

Clinical information is not treated as public information. Access and disclosure are limited by consent, care needs, professional obligations and applicable law.

Confidentiality is a core part of psychotherapy. SaskOCD and STG Health limit access to personal and clinical information to what is reasonably necessary for care, administration, professional consultation, funding or billing, and legal or professional obligations.

Limits to confidentiality. There are circumstances in which a clinician may be required or permitted to disclose information without ordinary consent. These can include legal reporting duties, court orders, situations involving serious safety concerns, child-protection obligations, or other circumstances required by applicable law or professional standards. The exact obligation depends on the profession, jurisdiction and facts of the situation.

Clinical consultation and supervision. Clinicians may participate in professional consultation or supervision. When a case is discussed, identifying information is minimized where practical and the consultation remains subject to professional confidentiality expectations.

Virtual care. SaskOCD uses secure systems for virtual care and clinical records. Clients are encouraged to join sessions from a private location and to use a device and network they trust. No online system can be described as risk-free, so privacy safeguards are reviewed as part of virtual-care consent.

Clinical records. Appropriate clinical records are maintained in the electronic health record and other approved systems used by STG Health. Records are retained and disposed of according to applicable legal, professional, contractual and organizational requirements. This page does not replace the more detailed Privacy Policy.

Email and routine messaging. Ordinary email is intended primarily for routine administration unless another secure method has been provided. Do not use routine email as an emergency or crisis channel.

Social media. SaskOCD clinicians do not use public social-media interactions as a substitute for clinical communication. Public comments can reveal a connection to a service, so clients should consider their own privacy before interacting with clinic accounts.

Questions. If you are unsure how confidentiality applies to your situation, ask your clinician. It is appropriate to discuss privacy limits before sharing information that concerns you.
