RECOGNIZE THE CYCLE

Could This Be OCD?

You do not have to prove that your thoughts are OCD before asking for help. Look for the repeated relationship between uncertainty, compulsive responding and temporary relief.

LOOK AT THE PROCESS

The useful question is often what happens after the thought.

01
A thought or doubt appears

The content may be ordinary, disturbing, confusing or hard to dismiss.

02
It feels urgent to know

The mind treats uncertainty as something that must be resolved.

03
A ritual follows

Checking, reviewing, researching, asking, avoiding or neutralizing provides relief.

04
Relief does not last

Another question or exception appears and the process repeats.

This is not a diagnosis

It is a pattern worth discussing when it is repetitive, distressing or impairing.

READING WITHOUT CHECKING

OCD can turn research into checking. Use this page to understand the pattern rather than to reach certainty about what a particular thought means.

LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

The question is not only what thought appeared. It is what you feel driven to do afterward.

This is not an online diagnosis. These pattern questions can help you decide whether a specialized OCD assessment or treatment conversation may be worth pursuing.

Urgency

Do you feel you need an answer, certainty, proof, a clean feeling, or a sense that things are just right before you can move on?

Repetition

Do you check, review, ask, research, compare, confess, neutralize or repeat something even after you already addressed the concern?

Short-lived relief

Does the response make you feel better briefly, only for another version of the doubt to appear?

Life gets smaller

Are you avoiding situations, people, objects, decisions, information or responsibilities because they may trigger the cycle?

WHEN IT IS HARD TO TELL

OCD can overlap with ordinary worry, generalized anxiety, trauma responses, depression, health concerns and other conditions.

The goal of assessment is not to force every symptom into an OCD label. It is to understand the function of the behaviour, how repetitive the cycle is, what it costs you, and what treatment approach fits the formulation.

You can start without certainty

A clinician can ask about obsessions, compulsions, avoidance, reassurance, rumination, impairment and relevant differential considerations.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU REACH OUT

A short path from uncertainty to a treatment recommendation.

You do not need to choose ERP, ACT, a theme label or a clinician before contacting SaskOCD.

01

Tell us what has been happening

Describe the pattern, the impact on daily life and anything that makes treatment access more complicated.

02

Clinical review

We look at whether the presentation appears appropriate for specialized OCD treatment and what further assessment is needed.

03

Recommendation

You receive a clear treatment direction, including when another service or medical assessment would make more sense.

04

You decide

You choose whether to proceed. There is no requirement to continue simply because you completed an intake.

IF THIS PATTERN FITS

You do not need certainty before reaching out.

Start with what has been happening. SaskOCD can help determine whether specialized OCD treatment is an appropriate next step.
