Specialized OCD care across Saskatchewan. Not an emergency service. Use local emergency services for immediate danger.

PROFESSIONAL REFERRALS

For Physicians and Clinicians

A useful referral should make it easy to understand who SaskOCD treats, what treatment is provided, and what happens after the referral is received.

REFERRAL SNAPSHOT

What a referrer needs to know at a glance.

Specialized OCD formulation

Assessment focuses on obsessions, overt and mental compulsions, avoidance, accommodation and functional impact.

ERP-focused treatment

Care is organized around exposure and response prevention, with adjunctive processes when clinically appropriate.

Saskatchewan-wide access

Secure virtual care supports clients across the province, subject to clinical fit and service availability.

Coordination

Medical and medication questions remain within the appropriate regulated provider scope.

Referral principle: A formal OCD diagnosis is not required before asking whether specialized assessment is appropriate.

FOR PHYSICIANS AND CLINICIANS

A focused referral route for suspected or established OCD.

SaskOCD provides specialized psychotherapy for OCD across Saskatchewan. A confirmed diagnosis is not required before referral; the presentation can be assessed for treatment suitability during intake.

Refer when

Intrusive thoughts, compulsions, reassurance, avoidance, rumination or functional impairment suggest OCD or an OCD-spectrum presentation requiring specialized assessment.

Treatment offered

ERP-based psychotherapy, treatment of mental compulsions/rumination, ACT-informed ERP components, family/partner education and coordination with medical care where appropriate.

Delivery

Secure virtual psychotherapy across Saskatchewan. Current clinician availability, age ranges and any in-person options should be confirmed at referral.

Access

Private pay, extended insurance where applicable, NIHB for eligible clients, and other funded pathways when currently available and approved.

REFERRAL PATHWAY

Keep the referral simple.

Clinical correspondence and coordination depend on client consent, professional scope and the referral context.

01

Send or initiate referral

Use the secure SaskOCD intake pathway or contact the clinic if professional documentation needs to be transmitted.

02

Clinical intake

We review OCD symptoms, compulsive behaviours, impairment, safety, comorbidity and treatment suitability.

03

Treatment recommendation

The client receives a clear plan. If another service or level of care is more appropriate, we say so.

04

Coordinate when appropriate

With consent, relevant treatment information can be shared with referring clinicians or prescribers when clinically useful.

WHAT HELPS IN A REFERRAL

A concise referral is enough to begin.

Useful information includes the presenting concern, suspected or established diagnoses, current medications, relevant risk/safety information, previous OCD treatment, major comorbidity, and the reason specialized care is being requested.

Clinical contact

Medical fax: (306) 900-6700. Clinic email: [email protected]. For urgent or emergency concerns, use the appropriate local emergency pathway rather than routine referral channels.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions are welcome. Certainty is not required.

These answers explain the treatment process without trying to settle the content of an obsession.

Does the patient need a formal OCD diagnosis first?

No. Suspected OCD can be referred for clinical assessment and treatment suitability.

Do you provide medication management?

Psychotherapy and prescribing are separate services. Current STG medical options can be discussed when medication assessment or coordination is clinically appropriate.

Do you treat mental compulsions and Pure-O presentations?

Yes. Internal review, reassurance, neutralizing and checking are explicitly included in the OCD formulation.

Can you provide treatment summaries?

When clinically appropriate, within professional scope, and with client consent, correspondence can be coordinated with referring or treating professionals.
